The 1st LIAISON/ISHTAR Workshop is organised by the IST project LIAISON (IST-511766) in collaboration with the ISHTAR project.
The LIAISON (LocatIon bAsed servIceS for the enhancement of wOrking enviroNment) project turns emergent technologies, applications and services into actual business cases in order to fulfill in a competitive manner the needs of workers in their daily life, for seamless and personalised location services across heterogeneous network. This Integrated Project unites expertise and activities from major European actors and is promised to provide end-to-end Location Based Services (LBS), applications and solutions for mobile workers and working environments. The project has an overall duration of 3.5 years. For a wide range of mobile workers communities, LIAISON provides end-to-end services which today cannot be achieved due to lack of co-ordination between available mobile and location techniques, poor performances of location techniques and lack of synergies between actors. To propose an approved solution, LIAISON integrates numerous existing standards and techniques, brings a set of emerging underlying technologies to the required maturity for professional usage, and enhances the system capabilities through innovations resulting from EGNOS and GALILEO signals as well as the newest Telecom Techniques. Furthermore, LIAISON exploits the synergies of the numerous and heterogeneous applications needing accurate and reliable solutions. Such an approach contributes to new business models that secure the sustainability of location-based services and applications. Through the liaison of leading LBS actors and mobile worker communities, LIAISON aims to: Consolidate the EU objectives for .LBS in working environments. and the commercial requirementsDefine the architecture of an end-to-end solution for LBS targeting the mobile workers ubiquitously (indoor and outdoor)Perform advanced Research & Development activities onto LBS to enhance the performances of future solutions and enable new functionalityValidate the key functions of the LIAISON solution, its performances, and its impacts on working environments through representative and complementary tests casesImprovement of working conditions, security and safety of the mobile workerImprovement of private and institutional efficiency and services through evolved working methodsPropose consistent recommendations for harmonisation of working regulations in Europe (including the E112 directive)Promote the European solution thanks to EGNOS and ultimately GalileoContribute the building of European excellence in the mobility market to balance the today .non European. solutions (patents, products, services)Objective of the workshop is to disseminate and present to external bodies the results and recommendations of the project, as well as to hearken the current trends of the Location Based Services (LBS) market on working environments. The workshop will provide 2-day tutorials, speeches and presentations of technical papers from manufacturers, academia, operators, service providers and related FP6 IST projects. Authors and potential speakers are invited to submit extended abstracts of papers or proposals for tutorials on both theoretical and practical aspects of the ambit of LIAISON.Workshop will include a demos area for exhibiting the LIAISON achievements.
